FREE Essential Bike Maintenance Classes with all tools and equipment provided. Just bring your bike!*

Dr. Bike 'Learn to Fix' classes teach you the essentials of bike maintenance so you can get the most out of your bike and feel confident in dealing with minor mechanical hiccups

IMPORTANT: Classes are available by pre-booking only! Please read all of the following information before booking

Classes are hosted by Waitrose & Partners Horsham in their under-store carpark: a safe, all-weather and covered (but open-air) venue with street-level access and on-site conveniences. We would strongly encourage you to cycle to your class but free parking is available for those participants who are unable to ride in.

Each class accommodates up to five people, and all tools, materials and PPE are provided. All you need to bring is your bike* (in already safe-to-ride condition), some clothes you don't mind getting a bit dirty in and something to eat and drink. Refreshments are not provided during the class but are available to purchase from Waitrose or in-store cafes .

Classes last three hours and include a 15 minute break.

Young people under the age of 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a participating parent or legal guardian and we'll ask you to share a set of tools and to only work on one bike during the class.

*These are bike maintenance classes, not free maintenance clinics. If your bike is not in rideable condition you should have it serviced and made safe to ride by a local repairer or at a Dr. Bike Clinic before attending your class.

Some of the things you will learn:

  • Anatomy of a bike and basic bike terminology

  • How to carry out a basic 'M-check' and see if your bike is safe to ride

  • How to work on your bike at home vs at the road or trail-side

  • Tools and spares: what to cary with you and what to keep at home

  • Fixing punctures, removing & reinstalling wheels

  • Oiling and cleaning chains and gears

  • Adjusting brakes and gears

  • Getting comfy on your bike: adjustments to saddles, grips and controls
